Meet the team

  • Mike Downs has over 30 years of experience in the Contracting and Construction industry, both in New Zealand and internationally. With a diverse background, Mike has honed his expertise in various roles throughout his career. He spent seven years at Fulton Hogan in Christchurch, where he familiarized himself with the local conditions and materials, as well as gained an in-depth understanding of the specifications, standards, policies, and procedures set forth by the Christchurch City Council. Mike's journey in the industry began with a civil engineering cadetship in Taupo, which led him to work on high-rise buildings in both Wellington and London. Seeking further knowledge, he returned to his studies, completing his Degree in Civil Engineering at Canterbury University in 1991 with Honours. Over the years, Mike successfully managed numerous projects ranging from small-scale driveways and tennis courts to multimillion-dollar airport extensions, subdivisions, and road construction endeavors. His wealth of experience and vast skillset make him an invaluable asset to Mike Downs Contracting.

Jane Gutry

  • Jane has been an asset to Mike Downs Contracting Ltd since 2012. In her role, she has successfully developed, implemented, and actively manages our comprehensive Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental Management System. Jane's expertise and dedication have played a vital role in obtaining and maintaining the following ISO accreditations: ISO 9001:2015 for Quality, ISO 45001:2015 for Health and Safety, and ISO 45001:2018 for Environmental performance. Under her guidance, our company has not only met but exceeded industry standards in these critical areas. Jane's unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and her meticulous attention to detail make her a highly valuable member of our team.

  • Nicola has been a valued member of the Mike Downs Contracting team since 2013, bringing with her a wealth of experience and knowledge in office administration. Her role encompasses various responsibilities, including managing general office tasks and overseeing the smooth operation of accounts payable and receivable as well as payroll. Nicola's proficiency in Xero accounting software makes her an invaluable asset in managing the company's financial transactions efficiently.
